Does AI Pick Me?

How the score works

See if ChatGPT, Perplexity & Gemini recommend you, or your competitors.

Each prompt is a question a buyer would type, such as “best plumber in Boise.” The free scan uses three prompts. The full report uses 17, and the first three match the free scan. Every prompt is sent to ChatGPT (OpenAI Responses API with web search), Perplexity (Agent API with web search), and Gemini (Google Search grounding).

Points

  • Absent: 0. The answer does not name the business.
  • Mentioned: 0.55. The name or domain appears, without a recommendation.
  • Recommended: 0.85. The answer uses language such as “recommend,” “top pick,” or “#1.”
  • Rank 1 adds 0.15, rank 2 adds 0.08, rank 3 adds 0.04.
  • A single answer is capped at 1 point.

The score is the average of those points across the answers that actually ran, multiplied by 100 and rounded to the nearest integer. An assistant that was skipped — missing key in live mode, a failed request, or the monthly spend cap — is left out of the average.

What counts as a mention

The model is asked for JSON, but the score does not trust a “mentioned” flag. The question already contains the business name, and models repeat it. We strip the question out of the answer, then look for the business name or the domain as a whole phrase. A negative line such as “not recommended” stays a mention, not a recommendation.

Competitors and fixes

Competitor names are taken from the answer, merged when the spelling matches, and dropped when they are the scanned business. Share is that competitor’s mentions divided by all competitor mentions. The fix checklist is written from the score, the prompts that missed you, and the kinds of sources competitors were tied to. It covers schema, reviews, directories, a page that answers the missed prompts, llms.txt, consistent name-address-phone, and a citation someone else wrote.

Demo mode

If a provider key is missing and AI_MODE is not live, that assistant returns a simulated answer so the product can be tried without spending money. The results page says so. Simulated citations are search links labeled “Simulated,” not claims about a real listing.
