How the Does AI Pick Me? score is calculated

The score is an average of buyer answers across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini. Here is the exact point rule.

Every prompt is asked of each assistant. An answer that does not name your business scores 0. An answer that names you scores 0.55. An answer that recommends you scores 0.85. Rank 1 adds 0.15, rank 2 adds 0.08, and rank 3 adds 0.04. A single answer cannot exceed 1 point.

The visibility score is the average of those points, multiplied by 100 and rounded. A free scan is 3 prompts times 3 assistants, so 9 answers. The full report uses 17 prompts. If an assistant cannot be queried, those answers are left out of the average rather than counted as a miss.

We do not trust the model’s own checkbox

The prompt already contains your business name, and models repeat it. A mention counts only when the answer text itself names the business or the domain, after the question is stripped out. “Recommend,” “top pick,” and “#1” near the name count as a recommendation. “Not recommended” stays a mention, not a win.

Demo mode is labeled

When an API key is missing, Does AI Pick Me? still runs, using a simulated answer so you can see the report. Those results are marked simulated. They are not live search results, and the citations are sample links. Set AI_MODE=live before you show the tool to customers, so a missing key becomes an error instead of a story.
